. . . Quilt to bind!
For the last few weeks, I've turned off piecing mode in the sewing studio and turned on quilting mode.
I tend to do this 'thing' where I get on a piecing 'jag' and get a bunch of quilt tops finished. Then, once I have a few quilt tops stacked up, I clear off the sewing table to make way for quilting.
When I am pieceing, I tend to have 'zones' with stacks of various project parts in play or on deck on the sewing cabinet. I quilt on the same machine that I use for piecing, so it feels like a bit of a chore to clear off the sewing cabinet to clear the space to quilt. Therefore, for me, it makes sense to alternate piecing and quilting in chunks.
For this round of quilting, so far, I've finished four quilts, two smaller ones, and two twin-sized.
This will be the fifth quilt for this quilt-a-thon period. As of yesterday morning, the binding is attached and this one is ready for my lap and a good long hand-stitching binding session. I like to build in a little quality control into the mix as I finish the binding - if I'm not cozy as I sew the binding to the back of the quilt, it's back to the drawing board.
In all my time quilting, I'm happy to report that I've never had a quilt fail QC!
During hand-stitching time, I'm back to sewing hearts for the local hospice. I'm sorta falling in love with this mini-pom pom ribbon. I used it for the 'Merry Christmas' project (below) a couple months ago, and I think it's nice on this much smaller project (maybe about 3" across), too. More of this to come, I think!
Two more projects to quilt - a very small wall-hanging, and a large lap - then I'll be 'zoning' out on piecing again.
People always tell me that I get a lot done. Maybe, but to me, it feels like I go long stretches and get nothing at all done! As in finished-done. The key is to keep things moving forward every day. A little bit at a time. This alternating process of stretches of piecing, then stretches of quilting works for me during my weekday morning sewing sessions. I enjoy the whole quilt-making process, but the finishing is the real payoff.
So many projects, so little time!
