Have you ever seen a bed-turning? They are often included in local quilt shows where someone in the guild or a local quilt historian has a variety of vintage quilt on display.
The quilts are typically stacked on a bed and the speaker peels away one quilt at a time revealing its history and beauty.
I go through phases where I piece and piece and piece, until I have a wad of quilts that are ready to quilt. Since I quilt my own quilts on my domestic machine, I start to get a little nervous when the quilt tops of 'flimsies' start to add up. With a bunch of quilt projects nearing completion in my own sewing studio right now, feels like a very informal review of what's on deck is in order. No bed, just quilt tops ready and in process of completion.
This holiday table runner didn't quite make it to *this* holiday in a finished state. There's always next year, though.
And there's a good reason why it's not sandwiched and quilted. It has a story.
More will be revealed in a month or two.
This small wall-hanging featuring the Bald Eagle block from the AfterFLOCK has been in progress for ages!
Too long. It's a gift, but first needs to be quilted and gifted in the very near future. Over the holiday, a few stitches and borders added this one to the to-be-quilted stack.
This one is second in a series. I loved this fabric - a fat quarter bundle and some yardage. The first baby quilt is done, this second near-clone only needs to be quilted and bound.
This project, now a completed quilt top, is a fat quarter project inspired by the Pick-up Sticks pattern. You probably have the pattern. It was a free gift a while back and, if you're a newer subscriber, then you likely received it when you signed up for this newsletter. Don't have the pattern, let me know and we'll send you the pdf.
This is a fun out-doorsy themed quilt for my nephews. The quilting is well underway, and of all the projects in the stack, this one is likely to make home base first.
I started working on this scrappy quilt in August at a quilt retreat. It's made from a pizza box full of cut-sewn-unsewn fabric squares and triangles from 10-15 years ago. I didn't care for the original project. Now the dis-assembled blocks are being reimagined with added scraps. It's ready for quilting.
This is a fun out-doorsy themed quilt that I'm making for my nephews. The quilting is well underway, and of all the projects in the stack, this one is likely to make home base first.
Earlier this year, I purchased a panel with 5" images of frogs, otters, herons, and other water-loving creatures. The fabric was on close-out and only one coordinate was left. My stash provided the fishy fabric, solids, and border print to pull it all together.
The quilting is starting with some in-the-ditch outlines, then I'll go back in and finish the blocks and borders with some free motion filler. I know a lot of folks don't really care for in-the ditch quilting, but I like it and a quilt like this is great practice to hone the skill!
Looks like my quilting dance card is filled for the next few weeks. Meanwhile, my brain will be thinking ahead to all kinds of what's-next-isms.
