Somebody is retiring. . .and it's NOT me!
A year or two ago (yes, this has been in the plan for some time now) the person who does an excellent job laser cutting the AfterFLOCK kits (since 2017) told me his plans to retire. He gave me plenty of time to consider my options.
Now, there are several vendors who do this kind of cutting work, but instead of hiring another vendor, I decided it is time to move The AfterFLOCK to its next phase.
This also frees up my time to work on other cool stuff as my own retirement plans approach (not retiring yet, but planning ahead!)
SO. . .
Since, I had time to plan, I started building AfterFLOCK kit inventory a little over a year ago. Now, kits currently in inventory will not be replenished. When they're gone, they're gone. In fact, four bird block kits are already out of stock and won't be replenished. But there are still tons of kits left in stock! Plenty of kits for lots of folks to make lots of quilty bird projects, I promise!
If you've been thinking about joining the AfterFLOCK to begin your bird block kit collection, might I suggest that now would be a good time to act on that thought and become a member.
Don't panic! You have options:
Option 1. Join the AfterFLOCK
At its core, The FLOCK and its successor, The AfterFLOCK, has always been a membership program at its core. When you become a member, you can collect as many kits as you like, one month at a time.
Each month the membership fee is withdrawn from your account automatically, which entitles you to one kit shipped to your mailbox each month.
You can collect as many kits as you like. There is no absolute starting point or ending point, and there is no one quilt project that everyone is working toward. You choose the birds you want. And you get to make quilts, or bags, or whatever you want from your blocks.
Each kit has all the materials needed to make the block. All the fabrics are precision laser pre-cut and ready to sew right out of the package. A full-color, detailed pattern, a practice unit, and tips and hints are included in each kit.
So, What has Changed?
Since kits will no longer be replenished as stock is sold, there is one big difference in filling your membership order. Until a few months ago, members had to choose their kit selection each month. Now, because stock is limited, new members are asked to select all of the kits they wish when they join the AfterFLOCK.
Shortly after your initial order is processed, look for an email with detailed instructions asking you to select the kits you want - your Wish List of bird block kits. Your kits will be reduced from inventory and will be put aside as your personal inventory from which your monthly shipment is drawn--one month at a time. No one else will get your kits, once you claim them with your Wish List.
Each month, as your membership renews, you only have to sit back and wait for your next kit to arrive in the mail, so you can start sewing (the fun part).
The sooner you join and make up your Wish List, the better your selection of in-stock kits will be.
Option 2. Shop A La Carte
Skip the membership stuff, by-pass the Wish List, load up your shopping card, and place an order. Just remember that only members can have a Wish List inventory set aside.
If you want to receive multiple kits per month as a member so your collection grows faster, go back to Option 1, join the AfterFLOCK, create your Wish List as instructed in the follow up email that will arrive shortly after you join, and let us know your request for multiple kits in your Wish List email, then we'll take if from there with some special instructions in the follow up.
Option 3. "I want it ALL"
If you're ready for a massive sewing session and don't want to wait even one more minute to get started. You have one more option.
All the kits that are still in stock, all at once in one big shipment, with free shipping, and a nice discount on the whole she-bang. The PDF FLOCK Lite version of any kits that are out of stock are included, as well as the Big Day Quilt Pattern.
Everything you need to go to town making AfterFLOCK bird blocks from pre-cut fabric.
What Can I Do with all these Birds?
The FLOCK originated as a bird block kit collection. With suggestions to use the blocks in small patterns as new blocks were introduced. Those free patterns are still available under the FLOCK tab above.
As The FLOCK evolved into the AfterFLOCK, The Big Day Pattern was created. The Bid Day pattern includes individual block settings for each bird block size and instructions for multiple block setting sizes--from table runners to king-sized quilts.
AfterFLOCK member Quilts
Here are a few of the amazing projects members have posted online.
Amy used the Big Day pattern for her project.
Pretty sure Barb managed to get every last bird in her quilt!
Callie's blocks really stand out against her neutral background fabrics.
Quilts are supposed to be used, right? Linda's quilt does not disappoint in her very tidy bedroom (*jealous!*)
