I finished up the Giraffe from the Funky Friends Factory pattern, the quilt now has a label, and three little hand-knit wash cloths are all done. The basket full of goodies is sitting on my dining room table and it startles me a little to see the giraffe giving me the stink-eye every time I turn the corner to go past the room! I just need to do a little floofing to finish it all up for the baby shower next week.
One quick photo in the sun before everything goes off to the mom-to-be. It's a basic 12-block star quilt with an animal print selected by the mom from a handful of options.
Inspired by the quilt show at the Stickley showroom a couple weeks ago, I made quick work of nine fat quarters and some background yardage to make up this Nine-month Nine-patch. Two of the quilts on display in the furniture showroom were made from this simple pattern years ago . . . Seeing it on display reminded me that I should make another one for another anticipated baby arrival!
The original pattern was was featured, maybe 10 years ago, in a quilt retail trade magazine. You start with 9 fat quarters, and maybe about a yard or so of background fabric, then add a couple borders. I just loved the sleeping bunny print so much I used the print (from FIGO) for the pieced center and for the outer border.
A 3" strip cut from the selvage edge of each fat quarter becomes five 3" squares paired with four 3" background squares to make the nine 9-patches. Add setting triangles and center squares and borders, and the whole thing is done in time for a nap!
The best part is there is no waste, as the rest of each the fat quarter becomes a giant 9-patch backing.
