It has been unseasonably warm and sunny for this area and this time of year. With so few sunny and warm days left before the chill set in. I thing it's important to GET OUT and take full advantage of the (likely) last few lovely days of fall.
This weekend, I went with a friend to the Montezuma Wetlands for a bird-peeping stroll with the local Audubon center. The trees, past peak color now, were still stunning against a clear blue October Sky.

Sandpipers, Bald Eagles, and Northern Harriers were among the many birds we tracked and identified along our short walk along the trails and marshland. I even met another bird-friendly quilter on the trail - Barb - what were we thinking?? Why didn't we take a photo to mark the occasion?
After a strenuous hike (okay, not so strenuous) in the harrowing heat (well, not that hot) a girl needs some refreshment (always!).
Amy, my partner in birding, and I stopped at the Lunkenheimer Brewery in Weedsport for a pint and some really delicious brick-oven pizza for lunch as we made our way back home.
(Ya gotta do what ya gotta do!)

And on Sunday, another stunning day required a walk along the Erie Canal. This time Dave (the hubster) was my companion. Although the trail looks empty in this photo, we encountered plenty of smiling faces with the same idea - get out and enjoy the fresh air.
Even this zinia (?) appeared to ignore the calendar and put on its summer-like show of color.

To top off the extended weekend, on Monday, my sisters and I did our annual trek to the Fly Creek Cider Mill for apples, cuisine-finds, lunch at the Otesaga Resort, and good gab.
Of the three of us, only one had been to the historic resort hotel in Cooperstown before. (Cooperstown is perhaps best known for the Baseball Hall of Fame.)
Casual dining in the Hawkeye lounge inside the hotel overlooking the beautiful grounds (pictured on the right) was excellent!

Back at home, with all that galavanting, it was time to get serious at the sewing machine. I finished the elephant baby quilt, except for the label. That means, it's almost ready for the baby shower on November 5th.
As mentioned previously, it's not a pattern, the inspiration for the quilt is from a Row by Row pattern from a few years back from the Cary Quilting Company in North Carolina.
And, of course, this special baby gift needs a little something to special-up the package. The "Sunbeam" Heart Fulls pattern is coming soon!
