Yesterday, I had my phone handy and in camera mode during my morning sewing session.
I was rather surprised when I took a step back and really looked at the left side (the side I use to stage my current project(s).
It looked like my sewing table was divided up into little 'zones' or communities of similar stacks of stuff. Take a look:
Working from the bottom right (closest to my sewing chair) to the upper left (nearly out of reach), I drew in little borders to show the 'jerrymandering' happening right on my sewing table:
- Cut. Or more like 'trim.' Space for quick trims, I have a small 4x6" mat flipped onto the unmarked size. Immediately to the right of this mini cutting station is my sewing machine bed. A big board is in the basement work room for the big pressing jobs.
- Press. I've crowded myself out of a decent pressing space on my wool mat. This is all of maybe 4x8" of pressing goodness. My mini-iron is behind me, plugged in, charged up, leaning on a pressing mat at just the right quick-grabbing height.
- 1. Stacks of scrappy purple centers and small strips for the purple Pick-up Sticks wedding quilt needed for January.
- 2. Stacks of scrappy centers and larger strips for a full-on scrappy version of Pick-up Sticks for donation.
- More 2. Accumulating small scraps and strips for the scrappy Pick-up Sticks project
- 3. It's #3 for a reason. Lowest priority not-so-scrappy Pick-up Sticks project just for me (always last in line).
- Tools. I grab my rotary cutter and acorn glue more frequently than any other tool for this project.
- OMG. Further detail not required. Is it 'a thing' to let your crumbs stack up so you can compare with others? Asking for a 'friend.'
- Chaos. Buncha stuff in there including rulers (useful), a label (useful eventually), empty Acorn seam glue bottles (throw them away, why doncha?), and other scraps. And don't forget the gatekeeper monkey!
Progress. Stacks of finished blocks for aforementioned projects 1, 2, and 3. Over 100 blocks are in the wedding quilt stack. - Future. AKA inspiration. There are a couple fat quarter bundles and some 'inspiration' yardage in this zone. This is where ideas percolate on the (literal) back burner.
I am NOT going to show you the right half of the sewing table. And if I did, the whole zone would be labeled 'wickedly out of control.'
Does your sewing table have zones, too?
