Who doesn't love a tasty cupcake!?
My mother originally found this recipe on a package of Spry at least 50 or 60 years ago. Spry was a brand of vegetable shortening that competed with Crisco.
These cupcakes were always my favorite after-school treat back then, and they remain my go-to cupcake recipe for a quick dessert or pot-luck bring-along sweet.
The recipe calls for vanilla flavoring, but I often change it up with a bit with almond flavoring in either the cupcakes or the buttercream frosting (or both) in addition to or instead of the vanilla.

It's a simple recipe, but oh-so-delicious!
The batch makes just enough to satisfy a sweet-tooth craving or it can be doubled. Either way, these cupcakes are a million times tastier than anything from a box! And just as easy to make.
Enjoy!
