Last week, I celebrated a near-finish on my AfterFLOCK sample quilt. A big deal!
With only the binding left to sew to the back of the quilt, and too-hot weather to sit under a quilt, that project is at a bit of a stand-still.
For the last several months, I've been quilting like a maniac with very little quilt top creation in between.
That ended this week. I started a bunch of placemats using the Pick-up Sticks pattern ages ago.
This week was Placemat week! Six of them! Pieced tops, prepped with batting and backing prepared for the finish, envelope style--batting, backing right side up, top right side down, stacked and sewn around the quilt top edge, leaving an opening. Turn, close the opening, then quilt.
I just love this sweet lavender fabric!
That's it for today!
This may not seem like much of a report from the sewing table, but every little finish is a success!
That's my story, and I'm sticking with it!

I am terrible at drawing with a pencil; but, fortunately, better with a needle. When I was teaching myself to FMQ , the advice was to practice with a pencil on paper; but, never was needle & thread suggested. About the same time I read about a woman who was teaching her daughter to sew using pet carrier mats, which were then donated to pet rescue groups. They measure at least 12″ x 18″ finished. ever since they have been my practice pieces. I am fortunate to get free cotton flannel and batting off cuts from a long arm business. I layer cotton right side up or on two layers of batting , topped with the backing wrong side up, stitch and turn. Voila, a blank canvas to practice a new FMQ design, making sure I close where it was left open when I turned them. A quick, easy, appreciated gift if anyone already has enough place mats in their life. Currently, I give all mine to a group who rescue infant orphaned kitties and puppies and places them in foster care.
Nice!
