Over the years, I have made it a habit to sew for an hour or two each weekday morning. If I don't, I can get sucked into the computer and never sew a single stitch! When big projects finish up, it's so rewarding because they've come together little by little over a long period time.
This project - the stitched alphabet quilt is finally getting a binding.
No show-and-tell until the binding and label are on! Stay tuned.

I've got a couple big projects already lined up at the sewing machine to work on.
With the end of something so big, it's nice to stick a small finish in between.
I received these machine embroidered strawberries on a gift of jam some time ago. I trimmed it square and added the red border. Then it sat.
For the longest time, it ended up on a stack of miscellaneous stuff. This week, it caught my eye as I was pressing the binding for the alphabet quilt and it 'told' me it wanted to get made into something.
I trimmed the borders and decided it needed to be a quick and easy mug mat. Just in time for seasonal giving

These funky stripes did the trick for additional borders.
Found a piece of scrap fusible foam batting in my stash and sandwiched backing, batting, and top. Then snapped this photo for this newsletter.
In haste (because that's how I seem to be doing everything lately) I grabbed the sandwich, slid it under the sewing machine needle and started to quilt in the ditch.
But something was wrong. The sewing machine struggled.
Seriously struggled.
My first thought is that the batting is pretty old, and it must be stiff to create all that resistance. . . .Then it dawned on me. . . .

In my haste, I grabbed the mug mat sandwich as well as the mini cutting mat underneath it and was attempting to sew the cutting mat to the bottom of the mug mat!
Ouch!
Finished up the quilting (with a new needle), added a binding, and, now, just need to sew the fold to the back.
Not bad for an hour of sewing in the morning!
Another finish, actually two, if you count the mug mat AND the cutting mat! The cutting mat is finished in a different way.
Eh, well.

Puffy Pin Cushion #29
This week's finish is perfect for Fall. Couched variegated threads, chain stitching, and scrappy Adirondack prints. Fun!
