Got a text message late Tuesday evening with an impromptu invite to visit the Stickley Showroom in nearby Fayetteville, NY. The showroom hosted a one-day show of 50 quilts made almost entirely by my friend Beth Broadway. I interviewed Beth here in this newsletter a couple years ago about because she heads up a local Refugee Resettlement agency here in Syracuse, and we discussed quilt donations to refugees in transition.
Beth is retiring soon, so she coordinated with Stickley, a locally owned and operated, high-end furniture manufacturer to show a fraction of her quilts (Beth is a very prolific quilter!). Beth added a label to each of the quilts with a personalized message to its recipient--all of the quilts are gifts--her retirement gift to her staff. Pretty nice, huh?
Anyway, since I'm in a bit of a rush after an unexpected, but welcome, change in schedule, thought I'd share some photos I took of the quilts in the showroom. Enjoy!
As you walk from room to room, the colorful quilts took your breath away with a spark of home-made color within the furniture displays.
Stand anywhere in the showroom and the quilts stand out with pops of color.
The blue, brown, and cream quilt is actually a project Beth made from two blocks I designed years ago for a retreat event. The nine-patch cream and brown blocks were part of a swap and the pattern was called Mocha Latte . The scrappy coordinating blocks were named Mocha Scrappé! From the combination of blocks, Beth created this lovely quilt with pops of bright blue. Eventually the two 'Mochas' combined to inspire a quilt pattern from the first of the ScrapTherapy quilts called "Everything Nice."
Of all the displays in the showroom I think this one (below) was my favorite--Hot colors on a black background set with sharp high-contrast black-and-white furnishings. Wow!
Seeing so many beautiful finished quilts in one place, as well as seeing so many design ideas for using quilts and color in a home-like setting was inspiring and worth taking a break from the desk chaos!
