This time of year, I think we're all pretty focused on the special packages that magically arrive at the front door. Whether it's that last-minute gift that you've been waiting for to place it under the tree. Or a little surprise arriving just for you. Or those very special deliveries that arrive mysteriously on Christmas morning from the man in the red suit. Every package adds a little excitement.
This week, I got a huge box full of goodies from my friends at Wonderfil. These are brand spanking new products that are going into our Iceland quilt kits. They're not going under the tree but they're just as exciting at least for those coming along on the Iceland cruise in July.
Oh! Look what else happened to end up in the box: A complete kit for the Bird Watcher Block of the Month from Wonderfil. The kit includes two adorable tins filled with awesome threads and all the pre-cut wool needed for the project. 'Santa' doesn't know it yet, but he's putting this under the tree for yours truly!
The last thing I need is another project to work on. BUT, it's BIRDS! Eh, well.
These kits will soon be available at your local quilt shop - just sayn'!
It's a little late for the quilt below to end up under someone's tree. However, the quilting on the zig-zag quilt is finally complete. Sewing the binding down (in front of a good holiday movie on the television) is on my to-do list for sometime in the next couple of weeks. Won't be done for Christmas, but it'll be a very special delivery soon to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Of the three quilts I've been working on lately, the last one in line is the purple Pick-up Sticks quilt variation that will be a Wedding gift for my niece. Delivery deferred to January.
The final special delivery I'm planning for these next couple weeks is going to land squarely in some tummies! What's Christmas without some home-baked Christmas cookies?
Normally, I'm not a fan of making traditional spritz cookies. I love to eat them, but the dough and the cookie press rarely cooperate. This year, I got brave and tried a new-to-me recipe. Instead of using one of those traditional cookie presses (that never seem to release the dough properly) I loaded the dough into a pastry bag equipped with a large star tip. Wow! What a difference that made! And the cookies are yummy!
Here is the recipe I found online. I didn't change the recipe, but I omitted the cookie press and opted for the pastry bag and star tip. Worked great. The first batch is getting a good dent. I'll have to make some more this weekend. . .
Santa can relax at my house. We're pretty easy to please and we're on a roll!
Merry Christmas!
