With the temperatures well below freezing and expected to stay that way for a least the next few days, I got a little silly and found myself looking around for stuff that would keep me cozy, indoors, and well-occupied for a good stretch. The mid-winter cabin fever is starting to get under my skin! Fortunately, I'm well stocked with stuff to do!
Such as. . .
A good book. This is especially delightful with a hot beverage and a cozy quilt. There is a stack of books under this one, and of course there are podcasts and virtual books in my 'reading' arsenal, too.
Games. Unless the game is solitaire, I might need the cooperation from someone else in the house.
Knitting and a good movie on the television is a great combo. This scarf is going to require quite a few movies before it's done!
Wool applique projects are nice, smaller, and do-able in short time chunks. Needle, colorful threads, soft wool. Who could ask for more?
There are all kinds of things lurking in the studio that haven't been touched in ages. A little beading, anyone?
Tax time is coming. One of the more un-fun tasks on my list is finalizing all that bookkeeping from 2025. There are still many debits and credits to be logged before I visit my tax expert. Blehh.
A yummy snack can be a lovely cold-weather distraction - if only a temporary one. It seems, the more yummy the snack, the less time it occupies, and then I have to find another snack or find something else to do! More snacks may require more outdoor exercise (in the Spring!).
I'm a jigsaw puzzler! I've got a special table just for puzzles set up in my work room. I've solved many small questions as my thoughts wander while concentrating on colors and shapes from the puzzle. The world needs more puzzles and less hot air.
Cross stitch needs some attention. 40 count fabric makes this one a slow-go, but a very satisfying finish (when I finally get there).
Quilting! I've been on a quilting binge for the last two or three weeks. Three more projects to quilt, and then I can get back to piecing and creating. Just about everything I'm working on lately is going to people in need of a quilted hug. The world needs more quilts or, better, fewer people in need. Jigsaw puzzles and quilts are connected. I bet you didn't make that connection before.
Binding a quilt is the most satisfying part of the quilt-making in my opinion. The end is in sight! Some like to machine sew the binding in place, I like to attach the binding by machine, but take the slow road of hand stitching the fold to the back. I like to savor every stitch (until the thread gets a *&%@$% knot).
I don't like to complain too much about the cold outside - certainly not with all this stuff to do indoors! The days are already getting longer, little by little.
What's on your indoor to-do list to lessen the chill outside?
