For the last few weeks, I've been on a quilting rampage. This project, made from twelve AfterFLOCK block kits and from the Big Day Pattern was third in line in a group of four quilt tops that were ready to be quilted.
Each of the twelve pieced bird blocks is framed in dark brown and royal blue. All of those - the brown and blue - have been ditched! Quilted in the ditch, that is.
The next step is to switch over to free motion quilting. But before I dive in, I want to give the quilt a little break so I can noodle through a quilting strategy for the cream and tan framing and for the bird blocks themselves. I think I know where I'm headed, but I decided to put the quilt aside and let it 'ferment' as I let the quilt find its 'voice.'
With one quilt left in the to-be-quilted stack, I switched gears to the scrappy Pick-up Sticks quilt sandwich and finished the quilting yesterday morning.
Now, the finished-quilts-waiting-for-binding stack has one more member.
This is becoming a mighty stack of fluff that needs to be bound! Plus, another small project has inserted itself on the calendar.
Therefore, I'm breaking up the process. The Big Day bird quilt goes to the back burner for now.
Hey! Progress is progress!
