A couple weeks ago, the number three was the subject of my musing over the number of projects was 'just right' to bring along to a weekend quilt retreat.
Over this past long holiday weekend, I took advantage of some quiet time to advance some quilt tops to the finishing stage, and the number three made another appearance, coincidentally.
ONE
This is the project I took to the retreat and focused on a couple of weeks ago; it's based on the pattern Everything Nice from the first ScrapTherapy book. Over the weekend, I pin-basted AND quilted it. Even the binding is attached and just needs to be sewn down. I could have stopped there and I would have been thrilled with myself!
TWO
Hundreds of these crazy little rail fence-ish blocks came together as a quilt top a few weeks ago, and it's been languishing in limbo for the next steps. it's basted now, and it's on deck at the sewing machine for quilting.
Both these two projects came off the 'magic' shelf where undone projects wait for their turn. They will head to Sleep in Heavenly Peace soon.
THREE
The purple-themed quilt top made from a variation of the Pick-up Sticks pattern is now done. This one is a wedding gift; the wedding is in January. It was the last of the three projects basted and prepped for quilting over the Thanksgiving holiday. It has to wait for a Spagetti thread order to arrive from Wonderfil before it gets quilted.
That's a lot of basting, even for a long weekend, and my fingers really got a work-out from securing the pins. A few really good history podcasts kept me motivated and moving forward one project and one pin at a time. If you're wondering, I often listen to (and did this time) The Rest is History - the series on Evita from a couple months ago is excellent! Nothing like you think you know from the show/movie.
I can't really say where the motivation came from for these three projects over such a short time frame, but it was a little like walking - one step, lead to another, then another. I also think I really needed a distraction, and these projects presented themselves at an opportune moment. There is nothing more satisfying than finishing something that's been hanging around for a while.
Don't you think?
