Now that the wedding quilt gift is finished, I felt like I really needed and wanted to have a fresh start with a new project. I've been working on several on-going projects for a while now, but I just needed a fresh start on something. I've had this really cute Dalmation puppy fabric for years and years and this was perhaps just the right project to perk things up on the sewing table.
I still want to keep the on-going projects progressing, so rather than put one or more of those away, I am taking a different approach.
First, what to do with the puppies. I honed in on the same block I used for the citrus fat quarter bundle leftovers a few months back--a modified Ohio Star block with border. This time, I'm using yardage for the blocks, and some coordinating prints for the block borders and center highlight.
It's a fun block to make. Even more fun with fabrics you love.
A test block first. The prints used for the star points and the block background are from the same fabric line and make the block a little muddled, but I'm good to keep going.
I cut 24 block kits, enough for a smaller child-sized quilt.
Therefore, my weekday morning sessions now involve a little bit of daily progress on four projects.
This one doesn't have a name. It was inspired by a photo I saw online that didn't link back to a pattern. I'm using scraps from the ScrapTherapy bin, so that's good! It's progressing quickly because it's a simple block, but it's not my favorite to work on. On point blocks slow me down with all those compensation triangles at the end of each row.
My current scrappy Pick-up Sticks project. I find this block fun to make because, each scrappy block is different. It also makes a great project for donation.
I fell in love with this blue and white print and modified the Pick-up Sticks pattern for this non-scrappy version. I think this might end up being a huge quilt for a queen-sized bed. But we'll see. It's progressing slowly because it's a bit repetitive.
By chain-piecing one step at a time from each of these projects, I'm making forward progress on each one. I'm not in a rush to finish any of them, so for now, I'm just enjoying the journey, one step, one scrap, one block at a time.
'They' say variety is the spice of life. For me, working on a variety of projects at once keeps all of the projects interesting, at least for the time being.
In another week, I may change things up again.
Because I can!

I love to read about your morning sewing adventures. Gives me ideas for how to finish multiple projects I have vowed to complete this year. I love the creation process but the finishing, not so much.
