A few weeks back, I switched gears for my morning sewing sessions to move from piecing to quilting. In that flurry of quilting fluff, about a half-dozen quilt tops are quilted, bound, and either gifted or ready for their new homes. One last quilt remains and it's a lovely one.
This was initially a multi-part project that celebrates spring using bear paw blocks and floral applique. I'll talk more about it in upcoming articles.
The quilting is a bit more complex and time consuming than the others, so it's taking longer and more focus. I'm starting out with a good deal of in-the-ditch stitching which means a lot of turning and twisting the lap-sized quilt through the sewing machine throat. I haven't quite figured out the complete quilting strategy yet, but it'll come.
On Saturday, I'm getting together for some girlfriend stitching time and will break up the quilting bonanza with something new-ish--the pattern has been available for several years, but the fat quarters joined my stash last year sometime. Chopped is a fun, fat quarter-friendly project and I have a bundle of fat quarters and some yardages suitable for background fabric that might just be the ticket for this project.
I've pulled a small packet full of Chopped bits and parts from the shelf where I store incomplete samples, but I'm not sure I have enough in the package to make something. I'll sort through that first, then decide if I want to finish the parts and pieces into something or jump into a new stack of fat quarters for a fresh start on a new version of the quilt.
