We're there. The 'magic box' full of projects that came off the shelf in my sewing studio a few months ago is now empty, but does that mean everything that was inside is finished? Let's see . .
I'm not sure I remember everything that came out of that little box, but I do know that there was a stack of half-square triangles without a purpose.
After adding some stash fabrics and using up other fabrics from the storage box, six place mats made from those triangles are now complete. I may donate these, and a few others, to Meals on Wheels.
At the very bottom of the box was this quilt top. At about 18x24", it was too big for a place mat. It was more suitable for a wall-hanging, or table runner, but these most definitely aren't my favorite colors.
I thought about setting this piece free to go back to the earth, but the blocks were hand pieced, and I hesitated.
Just when I was about to give up, I heard from a Good Migrations reader (you know who you are) who suggested this last item from the box might make a nice bag.
And so a plan was set in motion (thanks for the idea!). I machine quilted the piece and made a strap.
. . . Added the strap to the quilted panel. . .
. . . Along with a few finishing details so the bag would hold its shape.
And there you have it.
My sister has already claimed ownership.
The box is empty. . .
. . . And you can see the space it once occupied on the shelf.
However, you can also see two more boxes filled with goodies. (Oh, no!)
Never, ever really done!
This is especially true because the now-empty box also gave birth to these blocks and this lap-sized quilt.
In good conscience, I can't say the box is truly empty this one is quilted. . .
Tally ho! . . .
