With the work room back to its normal level of chaos, I'm back to serious sewing business this week.
I'm not a three-dimensional sewist (I tried making pajama pants once and failed miserably!), but I've been turned on to the Funky Friends Factory of stuffed toy patterns. (Not an affilate, just a fan).
A couple weeks ago, I think I mentioned that I had the Giraffe pattern on deck, but then took a detour.
I'm preparing the toy for a baby shower, and the giraffe seemed a bit much for little hands, so I hip-hopped to the Baby Bunny pattern.
The patterns provide one small step at a time with check boxes, which is helpful for someone who failed Pajama Pants 101. At some point, you always seem to have a half-turned inside out nightmare of seams and pins that looks like it's going nowhere. Then it comes together.
Thank goodness! Here is the almost-completed bunny. He (or she) just needs a tail and I'm debating whether to follow the yo-yo-like tail in the pattern or make a pom-pom with yarn. The yo-yo might hold up better, but the pom-pom would be so cute!
Instead of tracing the pattern pieces onto cardboard, then tracing them again onto the fabric, I prefer to print the pattern pieces onto freezer paper, then fuse the rough-cut paper to the fabric. For reversed pieces I fuse the rough-cut shapes onto the wrong side of the fabric. Then cut the shapes accurately Works great!
I need something else besides the bunny to complete the gift. . .
On reviewing the gift registry, the new mom has chosen a neutral color scheme for most of the items. I can't bring myself to buy a comforter or blanket (or anything) from evil Amazon, when I can make something as nice (or nicer, IMHO) in my sewing room.
So here we go! I pulled some neutral fabric bits, fat quarters, and half yards for some sewing action.
I've got until April 7th to get this done. Plenty of time. Now, please excuse me while I go sew!
