First, what do you know? Another Baby Bunny appeared this week. Bunnies do have a way of multiplying when left to their own devices. This is the same Funky Friends Factory pattern I showed you last week, just using different fabrics. As I mentioned, I'm not a huge fan of making three-dimensional stuff, but repetition has allowed me to improve - what do they say about practice?
Meanwhile, the original bunny from last week is part of a baby shower gift. The other part of the gift is a baby-sized quilt in neutral colors gleaned from the mother-to-be's gift registry. And since I've got some time limitations to get this done (the shower is in two weeks), I've started a count down.
While this isn't a formal checklist, I find it helpful, especially when there's a deadline, to keep a mental task list and check off things as they're done. Here's the list:
- Select Fabrics. Check!
- Cut and make 36 blocks. Check!
- Sew vertical sashing between the blocks to make the rows. Almost Check!
- Sew the blocks and vertical sashing into rows. Not quite, but Check soon!
- Sew horizontal sashing to the bottom of the rows. One more to sew, then Check!
- Sew rows. Three more rows, then check!
- Sew borders to the sides, top and bottom. Coming soon!
- Layer and baste. Not yet.
- Quilt. Nope.
- Bind. To come.
- Don't forget the label and washing instructions for the new mom. Soon!
Considering this was a pile of fabric stash and scraps last week, I've made good progress. But I am easily distracted (Bunny #2), so I'd better stay on task into next week and I should be good!
Do you use check lists like this - either a mental one or one that is committed to paper? For me, a list (of sorts) motivates me to finish the project by breaking up the tasks into small finish-able goals--one check box at a time.
