I haven't talked about The After FLOCK much lately, and since I have a couple newsworthy bits that might interest you, I thought I'd start out by showing you Kathleen's project that uses the Big Day Quilt pattern. Recently she finished up her quilt top using 20 of the bird blocks from The AfterFLOCK. She collected the block kits each month for the last couple of years and finished her quilt top recently. She then put it on the longarm for some of her own custom quilting.
Isn't it terrific?!
For this photo, the quilt isn't quite finished yet, it's pieced, and quilted, but not trimmed and bound, so I hope Kathleen pardons me for showing you her almost-complete masterpiece!
Here is a close up of her quilting on one of my favorite blocks from the collection - naturally it's the Ruby-throated Hummingbird block.
She added unique quilting textures in each block, flowers for the hummingbird, fish for the Kingfisher block, and so on.
Very creative!
Here is my smaller, 12-block version of the Big Day Quilt pattern. A 'Big Day' is a bird watching term - it is a competition between bird watchers to see how many birds members on competing teams can spot and log on one full day. My version isn't quilted yet.
